Update

Hi Folks! It's been a while since the last post, so I wanted to give a quick update, and to thank all of you who have been offering support, even if it's just a quick check in to say hi. Also, a warm welcome to those who are new to Cancer Fashion.

The treatments have been going well. Chemo every two weeks. Very minimal side effects. So far, so good. I'm getting another CT scan next week, so after that I'll know a lot more about my progress -- keeping my fingers crossed for some good news!

  1. Hi Jim,

It’s been a long time…too long. Donna Soohoo was kind enough to forward your blog. Can’t believe what we have in common. Chris, my boyfriend of nearly 10 years, was also diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer in April. Seemingly healthy. No family history. Only 49 years young. He thought he was too young for a colonoscopy. Now we’re seeing that recommendation to get a colonoscopy at 50 is BS. Something is happening with colon cancer. It’s affecting a younger and younger generation at a faster rate. On a positive note, you’ve got access to the best medical care in the country, and you’re young and strong. Life is a new normal. That’s for sure. Your attitude is amazing. Your words are inspiring and so true. I’m praying for you.

    Take care,

    Tricia Schumacher (of Providian days)

    1. Trish! It has been a long time. Thanks so much for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear about your boyfriend Chris. I agree with you about the "bs" of waiting until 50 to get screened. If I'd had mine earlier, I might be in much better shape now. Thank you for your words of support. I really appreciate it. And, though I don't know Chris, please tell him that I am sending positive thoughts in the hope that his treatments go well. Thanks again for reaching out!

  2. Jim,
I was so shocked to hear the news. I thought your post on how to spend your time poignant. It's so true...we are all so busy we forget to simply enjoy life. I'm so glad the treatments have been going well. I just wanted to let you know I'm thinking of you.
My fingers are crossed! (good news please)
